Migrant unaccompanied minors shelter
March - July 2021
Migrant unaccompanied minors shelter at San Diego Convention Center. Coordinating with a nonprofit in South Bay (SBCS) who the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services chose to lead social services to migrant children at San Diego Convention Center and am collecting new backpacks and flipflops needed for girls ages 4-17 who are already there, as well as boys who are now joining them. I donating hundreds of books and bilingual children’s picture dictionaries for the 1450 children currently there unaccompanied and this will really help as they only had the shoes they were wearing and nothing else.
U.S. Health and Human Services is overseeing the process of moving the teens and settling them with relatives and other sponsors in the U.S. The shelter, which can hold up to 1,450 minors, is the only one in the U.S. open exclusively to girls. “It just makes a lot of sense to separate girls and boys; they have a little bit different needs and different things that make them feel nurtured,” said Bonnie Preston, acting regional director for U.S. Health and Human Services. Boys will be joining the girls later to fill the capacity of if expanded beyond 1450.
Contact South Bay Community Services (SBCS) for arranging delivery with pandemic protocol or email me and I will collect and drop off at the Convention Center to SBCS at the beginning of each month, first collection is March 30th, drop off April 2. Second collection will be May 1.

Refugee Assistance for Afghani Families
Labor Day Weekend 2021
Urgent: Afghan refugees need your help!
Several families have just resettled to the San Diego area and we are assisting 5 families including 17 children and more are arriving next week.
Afghan families arriving right now in the United States are in desperate need of assistance. They have come here with little more than the clothes on their backs. Many are staying with relatives who arrived only months before them. They are living in small, crowded apartments with inadequate food, clothing, hygiene supplies, or even a mattress on which to lay their heads.
I am delivering to Amna Sanctuary non profit in Imperial Beach on September 10 and to SecondFamily.org over Labor Day Weekend who will directly distribute the goods to the Afgani refugees who just arrived.
For my first drop-off, please contribute Donations of school supplies, backpacks and flipflops for children and adults size 6-11.
Contact Amna sanctuary for delivery https://amnasanctuary.org/ attention Rasha or email me and I’ll pick up supplies and deliver. We will be coordinating with Amna sanctuary for a community drive next month to help resettle the Afghan families if you wan help out.
